Moveable 3D Raccoon Puzzle
Although a raccoon’s favourite pastime is spent foraging in trash cans, they are an interesting and popular animal found around Canada. They are the subject of this 3D puzzle. Initial sketches of the raccoon in a trashcan were replicated in Solidworks in over 15+ parts.
I iterated and designed the trashcan, platform and hinge of the puzzle. I went through many concepts of the hinge, before settling on the final iteration, designing parts into the lid and body of the trash can to seamlessly fit together. A pin was created to secure the two pieces and allow for rotation. When importing the design into the 3D printing slicer, I noticed the hinge required supports. To eliminate these, I added a triangular support.
The parts were assembled to create the final puzzle. This puzzle was 3D printed in under 12 hours and assembled by hand. The raccoon sits on a platform which can be moved up and down. This makes the raccoon "pop" out of the trashcan.
This project was completed by a team of 5 people. Teamwork, collaboration and extensive communication aided in the creation of the final puzzle.
